Last August, when the public option was declared dead by insider Democrats and the media, DAA members knew better. We knew, if we kept the pressure on, we could back up House progressives and deliver real reform with a public option.
We were right.
On Saturday night the House of Representatives passed a public option by majority vote. Now, all eyes turn to the Senate. With only a few weeks before the full Senate votes on healthcare, we have the majority votes needed to pass real reform with a public option. The one possible roadblock is a Republican filibuster. But Republicans can’t stop the bill on their own. They need at least one member of the 60-Senator Democratic Caucus to join them to kill reform.
We’re not pulling punches. We need to turn up the pressure on any senator who might be a Turncoat Democrat who supports a Republican filibuster.It’s time to bring back our hard-hitting ad pressuring Senator Mary Landrieu of Louisiana to support a public option. If we raise $100,000 by Thursday, we can blanket the airwaves and turn up the pressure for Mary Landrieu back home before she screws everything up worse.
With your support, we’ll hit the airwaves in Louisiana with our hard-hitting 60 second T.V. ad. featuring Karen Gadbois, one of Landrieu’s constituents, a DFA member, and a local hero for her work exposing corruption after Katrina. She shares her compelling story about how the public option would impact her life and asks Senator Landrieu to choose whose side she’s on.
Karen’s story is very heartfelt and personal. It highlights a real American who needs real reform. And it’s the kind of high pressure ad that no senator wants run against them — especially during an election year.
Senator Landrieu has a choice to make. Stand with the Democratic Caucus against a Republican filibuster and we’ll stop running the ad. But stand with Republicans to kill healthcare reform and this ad is only the beginning.
Saturday was a big day, but this fight isn’t over. We’re turning up the pressure and pulling out all the stops to win. And it’s going to happen because of you.

I hated school, hated it! I enjoyed art, music and English and that was about it. The rest sucked royally. School = jail to me back then. I am so glad I am out of there and never have to go back. What confused me as a kid was that I like learning new stuff. I have many interests and was a very curious kid. I figured out fairly early on I picked up more facts from reading for pleasure than from reading any text book. I loved it when class broke down from lectures into debates on any subject involving the whole class.
The only amazing thing is that so many of you are so young that you don't realize that this is the way its always been done, and that the media reaction for years has been a yawn.
Way back when the Geena Davis show "The Commander-in-Chief" was on TV, they did an excellent job of showing how much backroom stroking went on. Its so nothing new.
Yet that the Dems are now in power, it seems that the ways of doing business are supposed to change. Don't hold your breath, the trading of favors is the way it was, and the way it will always be.
Its really the only power they have.

When I saw this story broke, I was at first somewhat surprised about the victory, but then again, I thought of the history of Louisiana politics and the words corruption and idiocy came to mind (think the Longs-Huey and Earl, the Landrieus-Moon, Mary and Mitch, William Jefferson, Democrat-LA, , The Bus…apologies to Jerome Bettis…and James Carville.) That state sure has produced some real winners (and I use that word loosely) in the past.
When I caught the Rush highlights this evening, he brings up a very interesting point about Drudge's exclusive . The reason the DNC wanted Mitch Landrieu (son of Moon Landrieu, fm'r Mayor of Nawlins and sister of Mary “I'll punch Bush” Landrieu, Democrat Louisiana Senator) to win instead of 'Bus' was that he would get more Nawlins voters to support his sister for her Senate Re-election campaign in 2008…remember, it took a runoff for her to win in 2002.
