President Barrack Obama has announced that the ban on HIV-positive people entering the US is to be lifted early in 2010.

The disclosure came as Obama signed a bill reauthorizing federal funding for an HIV-related healthcare policy – to improve availability of care for HIV positive people and their families.

At the signing ceremony the President told attendees that the ban on HIV-positive people entering the U.S. was instituted 22 years ago “in a decision rooted in fear rather than fact”.

“We are one of only a dozen countries that still bar people with HIV from entering our own country,” he said. “If we want to be the global leader in HIV, we need to act like it.”

He added that overturning the ban is a “step that will encourage people to get tested and get treatment. It’s a step that will keep families together, and it’s a step that will save lives”.

Obama said that the repeal would take effect “just after the new year”. With January 1st a holiday the new rule is expected to be implemented on January 4th.

Leading UK sexual health charity The Terence Higgins Trust has welcomed the decision.

Lisa Power, Head of Policy at the charity said “Terrence Higgins Trust has campaigned for many years to end this discriminatory policy. We hope its ending sends a strong signal to governments and politicians globally who support such pointless gestures. Entry bans have no justification on public health grounds. Their only real impact is to increase stigma and prevent ordinary people with HIV from getting on with their lives.”

And after 40 years of steady economic growth! Chalk it up to trade, immigration, and labor saving technology.

In order to board an airplane, you need a valid government issued photo i.d. If you're a Mexican natioal of course you don't have a US state id, you should use your Mexican passport which is also a government issued photo i.d., only by the government of Mexico.

He shouldn’t have regrets.. he didn’t do anything wrong.. denying the builders their rights is not American… and it against the constitution.

You hair looks super pretty in this video!!! And I love you blush!!! (: Beautiful!

I think it’s also true that so many of our jobs have gone to foreign countries for the sake of greed that many many americans of the general labour type have no real hope of replacing their lost jobs with anything similar to what they’ve always known. How many times have each of us needed to deal with a customer service rep that barely speaks English as a 2nd or 3rd language. One can neither understand nor make oneself understood, ahh for the days when American workers manned those everyday positions we’ll probably never gain back. Just an example.I live in timber country, and approx. 20 years ago, the gov’t came by and destroyed much of the natural beauty of our forests and mtns. by clear cutting all the trees in wide swaths, like a reverse mohawk, leaving horrible scars on the landscapes that still aren’t healed. We’ve also watched our timber and lumber mills be shut down to ’save the owls’ and everything else that needed saving. This amounted to thousands of jobs lost, families broken apart, homes lost to foreclosures. So our loggers lost all hope of new jobs, so did the log truck drivers, mill workers, and the small towns that supported the industry have been devastated, turned into ghost towns. Then, with our state, county and local budgets cut severely due to lack of income tax revenue, we lost the bulk of our law officers, and in moved the gangs. Murder became normal on the news, instead of the ‘unheard of’ variety. All crime escalated, and so it remains. Our once beautiful state has been forever changed and marred by the progression(?) of commerce, few have survived with their life plans intact, many have gone onto welfare roles, supporting themselves through the production of unwanted and unloved children, taking what was left to ‘joe average’ to supply their needs, through increased taxes on those who stuck it out and weathered a very hard time by taking any work available and giving an honest days work for their day’s pay.No, not bitter, just wanted to say this;never have only one plan for your future, be willing to change and adjust, DO NOT SPEND YOUR LAST DIME EACH PAYDAY, live beneath your means, and be saving something.Educate yourselves and your children to the best of your ability, you will need all your wits about you to make a living in the coming years. You’ll have to bring more to the employer than the person in line behind and in front of you, just to have a job. Being employed is not a right, as some might think.

“Early Intervention - Prevention of HIV in children has many factors that includes, prevention of HIv to child bearing aged women, feeding options by HIV positive mothers, ART during antenatal, delivery and after delivery etc………
With the introduction of the PMTCT program in the country, I wish to know if there are some studies done on the Prevention mother to child of HIV transmission program.
