Maclaren, a British major stroller manufacturer is expecting to recall 1 million strollers. It has been said that all Maclaren strollers that were sold since 1999 are included in the recall. Although the official announcement is set for Tuesday, November 10 2009, Maclaren began notifying dealers of the recall in the past days and a letter that went out to the retailers has confirmed that this is true.
According to the New York Daily News, Maclaren is making the recall voluntarily. This is based on the concerns and incidences that kids can get their fingers cut off in the hinge of the carrier. In fact there have been 12 cases wherein kids had their fingers amputated after they were being caught in the hinge while the stroller is being opened or closed.
The impacted hinge can be found on the sides of the strollers and the incidents have been taking place when children are getting in the strollers and while they are already seated.
Maclaren is said to have plans to send stroller owners protective covers for the hinges. Maclaren will provide the hinge cover through its website and a special phone line for this purpose will be opened. When the recall goes public officially on Tuesday, parents can start ordering the hinge cover through the website or the phone line.
It is advised that parents who own a Maclaren stroller would stop using it until they have the Maclaren stroller repaired. The company along with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission will be providing its costumers and retailers a free repair kit which can be used to help install and cover the hinge. Wait until you have the hinge cover installed before you can let your kids use the Maclaren stroller again.
Maclaren and a spokesman for the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission will soon be officially announcing the product recall with Maclaren on Tuesday with all the information and the answers that everyone needs.
Strollers are one of the major expenses parents have to spend on due to the convenience that they bring. As they carry your babies and kids, it is expected that these products must be made with good quality with comfort and security of the baby in mind.
